Thomas J. Sponsel, CPA/ABV, CVA

Partner, Director of Consulting

Tom grew up in Indianapolis and graduated from Indiana University in 1976. Upon graduation, he joined Arthur Andersen & Co., and in 1980, he joined Greenwalt Sponsel & Co., Inc., becoming a shareholder in 1983.

Tom is the Director of Consulting Services for the Firm. He has significant experience in serving family-owned and closely-held businesses, including providing advisory services on succession planning, mergers and acquisitions, business organization, business valuation, strategic planning and consulting on various phases of entrepreneurial growth. He is also Director of our Business Valuation and Litigation Services Team as well as the Employee Benefits Consulting Team.

Tom has earned the ABV designation establishing him as “Accredited in Business Valuation” and has also received the CVA “Certified Valuation Analyst” designation, demonstrating his expertise in business valuation and related matters. He has extensive courtroom experience, serving as an expert witness.

Tom is committed to an active leadership role in his profession and community. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Indiana CPA Society (INCPAS).

Tom has served in a number of leadership positions for INCPAS and currently serves as Chairman of the INCPAS Political Action Committee. Tom has also served the profession on a national basis, serving on several AICPA committees. Tom has served on the AICPA’s National Business Valuation Conference Committee and served as the Chairman of its national conference in 1999.

In 1993, Tom was awarded the President’s Award by INCPAS for distinguished service to the society. Tom was also the recipient of the 2004 INCPAS Outstanding CPA in Public Practice. Tom has been very active in the community. Currently, Tom is serving on the Board of Trustees of the Catholic Community Foundation, chairs its Planned Giving Committee and serves on the Audit Committee of St. Vincent’s Health.
